Building Bridges

Building Bridges Volunteers

Building Bridges Volunteer Toastmasters Group

Thursdays 9-10am
Marie Callenders
1101 South California Boulevard
Walnut Creek, CA 94596-4413

This is a public speaking group for volunteers who desire to improve leadership skills, effective communication, and life-long learning to assist them in promoting community events and in helping to raise public awareness and financial support for music in the schools. Regular speech crafts help members attain social goals like better ways to host events, creative storytelling, travel journals, and improved writing techniques for every occasion.

Network with like-minded individuals to create lasting friendships while helping Building Bridges support music in the schools and social groups that build trust in our communities. Speakers entertain with topics that help improve memory, inspire optimism, and advance personal management skills.

Building Bridges is designed to meet the needs of community volunteers who desire to advance their public speaking skills. The educational workshops inspire personal growth and confidence building. Speech topics will focus on current events, personal adventures, and technical presentations with humorous Table Topics to advance memory and retention skills.

The weekly meetings are held every Thursday morning from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Marie Callenders in downtown Walnut Creek.

If you would like to participate, Contact Karen Lile or Marie Coll. You can also call Marie Coll at 510-878-7087 for more information.

Days of Light Volunteer Project

The original concept for the Days of Light Volunteer Project was created by Karen Lile in 1992, before Building Bridges was incorporated. In 1996, it became a part of Building Bridges when it was first implemented with Building Bridges Concerts for Kids Project in cooperation with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Contra Costa.

Days of Light Volunteer Project works with local non-profit organizations, social groups, and employees of corporations to give opportunities to volunteers to help in the community. The projects are defined by Building Bridges and the ComTeams (Cooperation of Many Teams Accomplishing a Mission) that Building Bridges organizes for specific purposes. The volunteers are organized by the social groups, non-profit organizations or companies that they belong to.

Building Bridges role in this project is to match groups of volunteers and the organizations they come from with projects that Building Bridges sponsors so that the community can benefit.
