Unique Postal Cancellation Marks Expo

As a way to commemorate the Health and Safety Expo and the Building Bridges of Peace campaign, the United States Postal Service has created a special postal cancellation that will be available only at a one-day postal station at Countrywood Shopping Center during Oct. 26. Walnut Creek mayor Gwen Regalia has been sworn in as an honorary Postmaster for the day.

These special cancellations are available for one day only and only at this site. Since they are unique and are part of a numbered series, they are prized by collectors.

The general public can purchase envelopes and have them canceled with the special cancellation during the Expo. They can then mail the envelope to any addressee, or keep it as a memento of the event and to start or add to their collection.

The cancellation costs $2.50 per envelope. Proceeds from this will be donated to the Contra Costa Breast Cancer Partnership.

Regalia will officially open the postal station at 11 a.m. in a brief ceremony. She will then sign the first few cancellations. The ceremony will include a performance by the Ygnacio Valley High School Madrigal Singers.
