First Building Bridges of Peace Special Postal Cancellation Ceremony: May 29, 1996

The first Building Bridges of Peace Special Postal Cancellation was held at the Walnut Creek Post Office on May 29, 1996 and broadcast on Contra Costa TV. At this event, the Breast Cancer Awareness Stamp was unveiled, the first Building Bridges Postal Cancellation was issued and the first Building Bridges of Peace Awards were presented to local volunteers whose outstanding contributions to non-profit organizations and partnerships benefit the community.

The Contra Costa County Breast Cancer Partnership was recognized for their outstanding contributions to Breast Cancer Awareness.
USPS provided special breast cancer awareness stamp lapel pins and limited edition posters to recognize outstanding contributions or local non-profit organizations and partnerships receiving the Building Bridges of Peace Awards.
