In the Matter of Declaring October 1996 as "Building Bridges of Peace Month" Resolution No. 96/420
Resolution for Building Bridges of Peace Month October 1996
WHEREAS, a bridge of peace is a relationship of trust, respect and cooperation between people and organizations who see and do things differently; and
WHEREAS, Building Bridges, a nonprofit charity based in Walnut Creek, CA, launched the National Building Bridges of Peace Campaign to recognize and encourage cooperation among individualsand community groups; and
WHEREAS, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (A.S.C.D), an Alexandria, VA nonprofit organization is "Building Bridges of Peace" in the field of education in the U.S. and around the world; and
WHEREAS, Building Bridges Concerts for Kids brings together professionaland amateur performers, media, businesses, and agencies to educate our youth and benefit programs in the schools; and
WHEREAS, the United States Postal Service has authorized a numbered series of Building Bridges of Peace "Special Postal Cancellations" the seconde of which will be issued by the Walnut Creek Post Office to honor the A.S.C.D. and Building Bridges Concerts for Kids and made available to the public on October 24th; and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa Television will promote events in its caledar, create a special 1-3 minute introduction for programs which Build Bridges of Peace and will broadcast the first Building Bridges Concerts for Kids on October 4th and 18th; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Newspapers continues to donate advertising space to inform the public of Building Bridges of Peace events; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors supports and recognizes major collaborative efforts by signing the "1st County Resolution" in the numbered Building Bridges of Peace Resolution series;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, California DECLARES October 1996 as "Building Bridges of Peace Month"
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 1st day of October, 1996.
