Walnut Creek's Proclamation for Violence Prevention Month
Content of City of Walnut Creek Proclamation
NOW THEREFORE,
WHEREAS, a bridge ofpeace is a relationship of trust, respect and cooperation between people who do and see things differently; and
WHEREAS, violence can begin when a lack of understanding, fear, competition and/or other forces break down the trust, respect and cooperation between people of diversity; and
WHEREAS, the City of Walnut Creek continues its commitment to crime prevention, violence prevention, and creating safe streets and environments where people of diversity can interact and achieve peace, prosperity and happiness; and
WHEREAS, the City of Walnut Creek is a center for individuals and organizations that serve its residents and the surrounding cities, and counties; and
WHEREAS, the City of Walnut Creek's peace, safety and efficient operation of services are benefited by its cooperation with a vast system of supporting networks that extend through the city, surrounding cities, counties, and throughout the globe; and
WHEREAS, the City of Walnut Creek desires to show its appreciation to all those who contributed to it by setting an example of hospitality and cooperation within the safety of its borders; and churches, community leaders, non-profit agencies, schools, businesses, performing and visual artists and companies, communication networks, health care organizations, youth, seniors, immigrants, citizens who are challenged in diverse ways, visitors from other states and countries, and people and organizations representing the diversity of the Bay Area are coming together to the City of Walnut Creek to reinforce the message of Violence Prevention and " Building Bridges of Peace";
I, Gwen Regalia, Mayor of the City of Walnut Creek on behalf of the City Council do hereby declare April, 1996 the month for
"VIOLENCE PREVENTION & BUILDING BRIDGES OF PEACE"
and encourage all to welcome the diverse groups and individuals who will be visiting the city by creating and participating in programs, events, cultural and educational activities, worship services, business endeavors and/or any other activity which will promote our common goals of peaceful interaction.
