Mt. Diablo Unified School District's Proclamation for Violence Prevention Month
Content of Proclamation:
Mt. Diablo Unified School District: Violence Prevention Month, April 1996
WHEREAS, all students and district employees have a constitutional right to attend schools which are safe and secure, and
WHEREAS, students and district employees are most successful when they work in a safe and drug-free environment, and
WHEREAS, safe and drug-free schools result from an integration of programs and services that are planned and supported by students, teachers, parents, administrators, law enforcement officials, juvenile justice officials, community leaders and organization representatives have been established in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District to plan and implement a comprehensive safe and drug-free schools program, and
WHEREAS, there is substantial value in maintaining safe and drug-free environments, the commitment to continued district and partnership planning justifies a high priority, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Education values efforts to establish and maintain high expectations of student performance and behavior which are only attainable in safe and drug-free environments, now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Mt. Diablo Unified School District Board of Education declares April 1996 Violence Prevention Month and adopts the theme of "Building Bridges for Peace".
The Board of Education encourages all staff and citizens to continue to work together in planning and implementing youth programs that advance the goal of peaceful and drug-free schools and communities. In making this declaration, the Board of Education reaffirms its year-long commitment to making all schools drug-free and safe for students and district employees.
